New research from Break Media has highlighted the growing popularity of online advertising.

The study, which may interest growing businesses carrying out direct marketing, found that while 69 per cent of men feel they cannot live without the internet, 59 per cent of respondents said they regularly take notice of promotions on the web.

According to UTalkMarketing, emerging platforms are being increasingly used by men, with social networking, online video and blogging proving popular.

Discussing the findings, Break Media chief executive Keith Richman told the website: "Our research was a result of our desire to learn more about our target demographic and what advertising appeals to them the most.

"We wanted to share this insight with partners so that they can better target our audience and create ad campaigns that are more impactful."

Recent findings in the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index also highlighted the potential value of an online presence.

It was found that the amount of money spent over the web during September was 14.8 per cent higher than last year's figures.
